Everyone has their opinion.

Mine is that after a while cards like 'top' lose their originality factor. It's a matter of style where you can try something new or go with what works.

Anything you choose will have advantages and disadvantages though.

Your favorite number is 32. It feels like the more expansions you remove from the format, the worse your deck becomes.

There will always be good cards and worse cards. Banning is an extreme measure that should be reserved for cards that really were mistakes. Typically I'm going to say combo cards that are in a combo the designers never imagined and then you have way overpowered stuff or stuff that warps the format to too high a degree (affinity standard).

So I'd say Top doesn't seem to qualify for the first criteria, but maybe it could be argued for the second criteria.

There's also cards that doesn't interact well with competitive gameplay. All of the Ante cards, Shaharazaad, Chaos Orb, etc. Top isn't as bad as any of those, but it does draw games out, making them long, boring session of shuffling and looking at the top 3.

There would be fewer bannings if they added more mana costs to spells and abilities.

Guess the person good enough to invent their own game.
